![]() ![]() I got sent a faulty Avacyn list in from someone, so I’m working on that as a base for this. Her unique awkwardness can actually benefit you if you build your deck correctly. Her red side cleans up a chunk of defensive fliers to aid a small voltron strategy and a Wrath from the command zone is nothing to sniff at. #Whisperwood elemental faceless menace plusOn the plus side however, for five mana plus tax held up and an occupied command zone makes combat a nightmare for opponents. Luckily lots of common spot removal exiles which limits the number of blowouts you’ll experience, but that doesn’t stop your board being incredibly volatile under Avacyn’s short-fused watch, especially during the combat step. She protects your board from a Wrath of God effect the turn she enters but then decides to slaughter your board when a single creature kicks the bucket. Though a standard midrange and cube all-star, her abilities in multiplayer often heavily conflict with each other. These last two spots could of been used to reprint a signet, or two, or put one of the many cards desperate for a reprint after being spiked in price by this format.Īrchangel Avacyn is an odd Boros Commander. ![]() ![]() This “feature” often left the deck pulled in multiple directions, the Bant decks from both Commander 20 are good examples of this, but with the theme this year being as simple as Keywords, I don’t see why we couldn’t ask for more morph-friendly Sultai legends.Īlso these decks are on 40 lands, which is quite a lot by commander standards, 36-38 dependent on curve with a healthy amount of cheap manarocks is the optimal. When I used to play these precons out the box with friends every year when I started playing the format, I enjoyed being able to at least try to play with another legend also in the deck. This in the case of Faceless Menace locks you into playing Kadena as your commander if you want to stick to the morph theme and can often leave you with creatures in hand that don’t draw you a card with Kadena in play. The biggest issues I’d say are the new exclusive commander cards are pretty uninspired and don’t fit the theme of the decks very well. Kadena is a great card for putting the strategy on the map. Faceless Menace is a great starter set for anyone looking to play morphs in this format, including a great selection of the best morphs in Magic’s history. This year’s selection I’d say overall are much better than last year’s. ![]()
